Teaching

I have been teaching singing in Cheltenham since 2007. My belief is that singing can help develop confidence not just in musical performance but also more generally and in the day to day life of my students. It is a healthy, pleasurable, sociable activity that everyone can enjoy.

I have taught hundreds of students of all ages and abilities, with a 100% pass rate in all exams including ABRSM, Trinity and LAMDA exams. 25% of entrants have been awarded a distinction, and the majority of my Grade 8 students achieved this level. I believe that anyone can sing – maybe not perfectly, but most certainly better and I am delighted with the progress that many supposedly ’tone deaf’ students have made.

My students have achieved some extraordinary things, including going on to Rose Bruford, Italia Conte and universities all over the country. Some are now teaching themselves, performing professionally and holding influential positions in the music industry.

Whether you are a beginner or a Grade 8 student, I can help you improve. In my teaching I regard vocal health as paramount. My main aim is to build confidence and good underlying technique. This will improve your performance and also your enjoyment of singing.

  • There is a reason I had 7 years of lessons with her!

Helen’s enthusiasm for singing and breadth of knowledge, coupled with her ability to help you understand the techniques needed, are just a few of the things that make her a great teacher. She truly cares about your goals and singing style, which is evident in the way that she leads both individual lessons and choir practice.

  • Every lesson with Helen is fun!

Helen is a fantastic and highly knowledgeable singing teacher; she got me through my ABRSM grades 7 & 8 and also my application to study music at university.
